Overhead PA Announcements for Bus Stops
Provide real-time passenger information.
Providing accurate real-time bus stop information is imperative when thousands of people rely on this information each day. The public needs to be informed if their bus will be arriving and departing on-time, and if there is a delay or schedule change due to road conditions or an emergency. Based on this information, Passengers decide which bus to take or if they have to make alternative travel arrangements so it is critical that the information provided be as accurate as possible. If your company has to provide bus stop information to the traveling public then you need a real-time passenger information system that reduces passenger frustration, improves customer service and builds loyalty towards your company.
How is real-time information tracked?
At specific times of the day, each bus transmits its current location to a central computer using wireless technology or a radio link. The central computer uses this data to track the progress of each bus and determine if the bus is on-time, ahead of schedule or delayed. The real-time information is then downloaded into an intelligent sign unit at each bus stop along the route and this sign unit plays the updated audio or visual message to passengers at the stop informing them of the schedule change.
Passengers can get information in a variety of ways.
Travelers can receive real-time passenger information in a variety of ways: audio or visual messages at the bus stop, audio messages over the phone, or information via the internet, SMS and WAP. The bus stop audio and visual messages may automaticaly play at regularly scheduled times or they can be triggered in a number of ways: via a tagged vehicle (i.e. bus) approaching the sign, via a communications link (radio or data connection), by proximity detectors activating when someone approaches the sign or a special key fob being pressed by a visually-impaired person. Travelers may also retrieve real-time passenger information by dialing a telephone line from the comfort of their own home/work, or via a mobile phone as they walk to the bus stop. Some systems even support retrieval of real-time information via the internet or SMS and WAP access.
