Any shopping mall, school, government building, concert hall, train or bus station, ferry terminal, airport, office building or other facility that has concern for the safety of the public and their Staff, should have some sort of help point system to enable control room Staff to see, hear and control what is going on in their building even if they are not physically at the site. A help point system allows people to have direct contact with Staff to ask questions, or get immediate help in the case of an emergency. It allows Staff to monitor a variety of building functions and automatically be alerted if there is problem such as a system failure, fire, medical emergency or public safety concern. Help points provide the public with a degree of personal safety and ensure Staff are aware of public safety concerns as quickly as possible.
When someone presses a help point button it generates an alarm in the building control room to alert Staff that someone requires assistance. While the call is being answered a CCTV camera is automatically focused on the help point so control room Staff can view the caller while they speak to them. At the same time video and audio recorders automatically start recording all conversations between the person at the help point and the control room. In many cases the person may just need directions or have a question. However if the situation is more serious such as a fire or a safety concern, the help point system enables control room staff to monitor and manage other building systems while they talk to the person at the help point. Staff can make public address announcements, change messages on visual display signs, activate/deactivate door, escalator or gate alarms, and automatically call police, fire and medical staff if required, all from a touch-screen. Help point systems provide people with instant access to a live person for information or when there is a concern for their personal safety, and it ensures Staff are aware of any problems so they can deal with them immediately.
If someone has a question, or if their personal safety is endangered, they can push one button and be in direct contact with control room Staff no matter where in the building they are located.
If someone is hurt, or there is a fire, people physically at the location can quickly alert control room Staff so they can call for help.
The help point system provides control room Staff with a comprehensive touch-screen diagram of the building or station so Staff can monitor various building or station functions such as alarms, elevators, escalators, signs, HVAC, doors or other items.
The help point has a built-in diagnostic facility that automatically alerts control room Staff when it senses a system failure such as: elevators not working, doors ajar, alarms going off, or CCTV camera’s not functioning.
