Overhead PA for Platforms and Stations

Inform passengers about important information.

Overhead public address systems communicate important information to travelers, reduce passenger frustration and build loyalty with your traveling public. They may include audio and visual passenger information so travelers know if the bus, train or ferry they want to take will be arriving on-time or will be delayed. This information reduces their frustration and helps them make informed decisions about how and when they are going to travel.

Overhead announcements are used to inform passengers of schedule changes, platform closures, mechanical failures (elevators, escalators etc.) and public safety issues (fire, medical emergency). They help locate passengers, inform travelers of company policies (non-smoking), tell travelers where they can get help (passenger service and help points), and inform them when there is an emergency. Overhead announcements certainly help traveling passengers and are a critical component of any platform, station and terminal information system.

Provide a variety of information:

1. Real-time passenger information.

Provide real-time audio or visual announcements to passengers indicating if the approaching bus/train/ferry is on-time, early or delayed. Messages may be pre-recorded or live pages.

2. Live informational announcements.

Make live audio announcements to passengers informing them about lost children, unclaimed baggage, closed platforms, malfunctioning equipment (elevators, escalators etc.), or passengers that need to be located (i.e. “Would Robert Smith please report to passenger service for an important message”).

3. General information messages.

Play pre-recorded messages to inform passengers about: terminal closing times, baggage pick-up areas or restaurants, taxis and other services.

4. Courtesy announcements.

Pre-recorded overhead announcements can be used to remind passengers of the non-smoking policy and to “Mind the gap” when boarding trains.

5. Promotional messages.

Play pre-recorded or live marketing messages to promote special offers, fare discounts or new products and services.

6. Help points and safety details.

Inform passengers where they can go for information or where help points and public safety cameras are located.

7. Emergency Messages.

Quickly inform passengers if there is a fire, bomb threat, evacuation order or medical emergency in the building.

8. Foreign language announcements.

Overhead systems are used at platforms and stations to provide foreign passengers with informational messages in their native language.
