Vancouver SkyTrain

1985 - Vancouver SkyTrain for Expo’86

In 1985, Interalia was requested to develop a voice announcement system for installation on the SkyTrain, a two-line urban mass transit system built as a driverless mass transit system for Worlds Fair Expo’86 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Interalia developed the Vehicle Voice Announcement Unit [VVAU] which is an EPROM based system that delivered next stop, safety, and public service announcements on board the SkyTrain vehicles.  Over 100 VVAU systems were installed for use on the original MKI SkyTrain vehicles and they remain in use today.  It uses Bombardier’s Advanced Rapid Transit technology, with fully automated trains running principally on elevated tracks (hence the name).
